York Trials Unit

The York Trials Unit (YTU) is a leading UK centre for the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of high-quality, scientifically rigorous randomised controlled trials. Based within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, we are a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) Registered Clinical Trials Unit with a long-standing track record of impactful research.

At YTU, health and wellbeing are at the heart of all our research endeavours. Our mission is to improve health and wellbeing by generating robust evidence to inform healthcare decisions and practice. We specialise in pragmatic and collaborative trials, addressing crucial health and care questions that arise in real-world settings – from hospitals and care homes to community initiatives.

Comprising a large, multidisciplinary team of over 120, YTU brings together specialists in statistics, trial co-ordination, data management, health economics, qualitative research, and patient and public involvement (PPI). This comprehensive expertise allows us to guide trials from inception to successful completion, always adhering to the highest scientific and ethical standards.

Beyond leading our own portfolio of trials, YTU provides vital support and academic leadership for external research projects, contributes to national research strategy, and plays a key role in developing new trial methodologies. We are proud to collaborate with national and international partners, actively shaping the future of clinical research.
